Dussehra / Vijayadashami 2020

Dussehra is a famous festival celebrated in India to mark the victory of good over evil. It is the day when evil King Ravana was killed by God Ram. Indians rejoice on this day every year by making huge effigies of Ravana and burning it. The burnt effigy showcases that every bad deed or every bad person meets his end this way. Dussehra is celebrated as Vijayadashami is South India and people consider this day as sacred and auspicious to start any new job or new work.

If you have a Dussehra celebration coming up with your friends and family, then you must dress up in your best Ethnic clothes to impress one and all. If you are confused about what to wear, then this guide will help you look your ethnic best this festive season:

Dresses or Outfits for Women

Women always love to dress up and are always on the lookout of wearing their heavy dresses, sarees and jewellery for occasions, gatherings, festivals and Poojas. Here are some clues to what women can wear this Dussehra.

1. Kurti or Kurtas

If you want to feel comfortable and yet look traditional then kurtis in traditional prints and fabrics will be the perfect choice. Bandhani, leheriya, tie and dye, kota doriya, banarasi, etc are some of the few fabrics and prints made in India. Pick up kurtis or long kurtas with these fabrics or prints. Choose bright colored hues to cast an impression. Pair your tops with churidaars, salwaars or palazzos. You can even opt for a kalidaar anarkali for this festive season. These ooze of a heavy look and are perfect for a festive get-together.

2. Dupattas

Even if you do not carry a dupatta over your kurti for your everyday work wear or home wear, festivals are occasions, when you should carry your dupattas in style. They not only enhance your outfit but also make it look complete. You can carry heavy dupattas like banarasi or those with heavy golden, silver or zari borders to add oomph to your simple kurtis or kurtas.

3. Sarees

Bengali sarees with red borders or any other ethnic print saree can be perfect for your Dussehra celebration. Pick up a saree with a heavy border, preferably in gold or silver to do justice to the festival. Dussehra is all about happiness, prosperity, vibrancy and glitter. So choose dresses that are in sync with these sentiments.

4. Accessories

Festivals are also a time when women in India remove their heavy jewellery from lockers and flaunt them. You can wear your prettiest gold or diamond set that matches well with your outfit. If your celebration is in the day, choose long earrings and lots of bangles and skip the necklace, to give a balanced look. If you want to wear a heavy necklace, then balance it with solitaires or stud earrings. Also, to add more appeal to the festival, wear flowers in your hair. Traditional Hindu culture and old mythologies in our culture always described women wearing fresh and fragrant flowers in their hair. A jasmine string or a fresh red rose would look dreamy on your tightly-made bun.

So, this Dusshera festival, ensure that you dress up in any of the traditional dresses for women and look your ethnic best!
